Present
Present was a photographic intervention by Maggie Lawson on public space of Sanremo’s old town neighborhood, La Pigna. The work aims to reinforce and shift the sensorial awareness of cultural urban space elements.

The installation spans the length of the busiest pedestrian street in the neighborhood, Via Palma. It is composed of photos that capture the aesthetic context of the neighborhood, a mix of deterioration, original medieval structures, and modern restorations. They focus on details amidst the chaos of this decay and antiquity.
Using glue, over two days, the photos were attached next to details of which they were taken. They were installed during a time when residents were present and able to share reactions with the artist. In this way the installation created a dialogue about the street and created an altered path for the residents’ everyday experience of Via Palma.
