Il Festival
Sanremo or San Remo is a city with about 57,000 inhabitants on the Mediterranean coast of western Liguria in north-western Italy. Founded in Roman times, the city is best known as a tourist destination on the Italian Riviera. It hosts numerous cultural events, such as the Sanremo Music Festival and the Milan ñ San Remo cycling classic.
The Festival della Canzone Italiana (Italian song festival) is a popular Italian song contest running since 1951 held annually at Teatro Ariston in the city of Sanremo. Usually referred to as the Festival di Sanremo (Sanremo Music Festival), it was the inspiration for the Eurovision Song Contest.
The festival has been used as the way of choosing Italy’s Eurovision entry from 1956 to 1966, in 1972 and 1997. The festival has also launched the careers of many very famous Italian singers, most notably Andrea Bocelli, Giorgia, Mietta, Elisa, Laura Pausini and Eros Ramazzotti
The Festival is broadcast live on TV Rai Uno in Eurovision Network since 1955. From 1951 to 1954 it was transmitted only on radio RAI.
The moto of the festival is Perchè San Remo is San Remo.
Sanremo is known as the City of Flowers (la Citta dei Fiori), this being another important aspect of the economy of the city.
In the project Il Festival which is actually a short film, I am dealing with two stereotypes of popular culture in San Remo.

La Pigna is the part of San Remo where people are not so impressed by the most popular festival in Italy but for sure, there are some who like to sing. I have videotaped people from La Pigna singing in flowers.
