Dystopia: Italian National Exhibition of Natural Foods 2090
Installation
“The worst threat for our survival isn’t from nuclear arms but from what we are going to eat for dinner” (David Reuben)
Dystopia is an ironic vision for the future of food production. What if our perceptions of how food is produced became a reality? Inside the fridge of the future one can find the inaccessible natural food, plants, only used as display objects. Just across from the refrigerator is a garden plot “growing” industrialized foods that cannot be grown. Globally the food system is rapidly changing. This installation questions the disconnection between our perceptions of how food is produced and the realities that are masked by supermarket culture.
“The final part of the installation involved festival attendees who volunteered to help “free” the jarred plants and plant them in a small, improvised garden inside the park. “
